AGENDA ** Regional Programs Update Regional Updates:Eugene CyberSchool is developing 10 new courses on a fast track model using a template called Course Developer 2. If interested, send a request to Jack Turner and he will reply with the URL. CyberSchool finds copyright and intellectual property is becoming an increasingly complex subject. Portland CyberScholars: Looking for Board approval and funding for distance education classes for second semester (February 2001). Southern Oregon Online School: Currently running seven courses and serving 20 students. Expanding to 16 courses in the near future. Also enlarging their scope to serve students outside of their original scope of credit recovery. Teacher training Mollala SD Expanding their OSHA training to be web based. Hillsboro Net School Serving 41 students taking 61 sections. Seven courses designed by their teachers using WEBCT as their platform. S-K Online serving about 300 students taking 400 online sections this fall. SK Online participated in the Schools of Excellence Fair as part of the National School Board Association's T+L Denver Conference. Developing a relationship with Colorado's online learning initiative. SK online is launching a online teacher training course the end of November with graduate credit granted by Willamette University.
Spring Online Learning Conference in HillsboroDate was set for May 5th, 2001. Roy Bunche has sent email and hard copies of the proposed agenda and conference planning feedback forms seeking input. Hands-on workshops will be held in computer labs. Roy is looking for additional participants. OSU Proposal for Oregon Virtual High SchoolJack Turner and Marty Karlin attended a meeting where a proposal for a online school associated with Oregon State University School of Education. Bill McCaughan, Dean of Distance & Continuing Education, is working on that proposal for OSU. NSBA Online Learning SymposiumAt the NSBA T+L Denver Conference, Mary Jean Sandall and Jim Saffeels participated in a symposium dealing the attributes and challenges for successful online learning. NSBA will send a compilation of the findings to be forwarded to the group. Classroom Connect ConferenceMarty Karlin reported that SOOS was able to arrange for eight staff members to attend the Anaheim Classroom Connect Conference to 1) build community among staff and gain perspectives from other operations. Sessions included teacher-level how to's and hands-on labs. Ohio Model for Incorporating VTEL in the CurriculumAt the NSBA T+L conference, the Ohio Consortium for Conceptual Learning was featured. Essentially, the concept is to use the Web to provide learning resources and frameworks in conjunction with content providers that connect with students via VTEL.
